We’re all aware of the damage plastic is causing to the planet. You don’t need reminding because you’re bombarded with images every day, whether it’s on social media, in the newspaper, or on TV. But let’s be honest here, plastic is not the only problem. It’s our wasteful society in general. 

Single use plastic is one part of the problem that most people concentrate on because it’s easy to fix. You’re also learning new habits that can help reduce waste in other areas of your life. 

The first step is the hardest because you’ve got to overcome the belief that it’s just too difficult. It was something I struggled with myself and is the main reason I’m writing this and subsequent blogs.

Once you know how to approach zero waste living you can get on with the easy and fun part. 

Be realistic about cutting your plastic consumption and it’s so much more achievable. You might not achieve zero waste this year, next year, or even five years from now but you can make a difference with very little time and effort.

Here are three tips to get you started.

Make small changes one at a time

Try to do it all at once and you’re more likely to fail. Take one step at a time and give yourself the time to get used to a new habit.

The ultimate goal of being able to fit one years waste into a 16-oz mason jar will not happen overnight. There are things you have to learn, and you don’t need to make it too difficult for yourself. Do what you can when there’s an opportunity.

A great place to start is to ditch the plastic water bottle. Yes, they come in very handy when you need a drink, but why not plan ahead and take a reusable container filled with your favourite drink instead?

Keep a supply of reusable bags in your car and one in your handbag so you’re not tempted to reach for the plastic carrier bags when you’ve nipped into the supermarket on the way home from work.

Make small and gradual changes and you’re more likely to succeed.

Don’t aim for perfection

We’re all far from perfect, me included, so don’t get super-frustrated when you’re putting out your rubbish bins at the end of the week. If you’ve reduced the amount of waste going to landfill consider it a victory and then search for ways to reduce it even further.

Doing something is better than doing nothing at all, and you have to do what works for you, when the time is right.

There will be things you need to buy that come wrapped in plastic. We don’t live in an ideal world, and the supermarkets won’t not change their ways overnight either. Recycling is after all an option, although not a solution.

Make the easiest changes first

Start by getting some basic reusable items, for example, reusable grocery bags, produce bags, containers, cutlery, coffee and drink cups, and water bottles.

You don’t need to swap out all these at once if you don’t want to. You might, for example, already be using products you can use time and time again. I’ve still got a good supply of plastic containers I use for storing food in the freezer. I’m not about to get rid of them until they wear out.

When you’re shopping for your groceries, look for plastic-free alternatives. Look for items that come with no packaging, take a wander around your local fruit and vegetable market and see what’s on offer. Plastic free shops are also popping up all over, so keep a look out for one in your local town.

If there aren’t any bulk stores nearby, aim to shop locally as much as possible. If you can take your own containers or bags, so much the better. Also look for opportunities to buy directly from the producer, as these often come without all the packaging.

I’ve come to enjoy shopping in my local shops and at the market, it’s such a personal experience.

Tips for Relieving Computer Eye Syndrome


Does your job involve sitting at a computer all day long? Do you spend your evenings surfing the net or playing online bingo? Computers may be very convenient, time saving, and entertaining, however, they also put your body under a great deal of strain. Not sitting properly or having an ergonomic workstation can play havoc on your body. The computer screen itself can also be a strain on your eyes. If you think your eyes might be suffering because of the hours you spend in front of electronic screens, here are some tips that will help reduce the problem.

What is Computer Eye Syndrome?

Also known as computer vision syndrome, or digital eye strain the symptoms include tired eyes, strained feeling eyes, dry eyes, blurry vision, headaches, shoulder and neck pain. These symptoms are caused by the glare from electronic devices and computer monitors. Research is showing that computer eye syndrome affects millions of people.

The reason it happens is that your eyes are staying focused on a close-range object, your computer monitor, for such a long time that your eye muscles become strained. They become increasingly fatigued over the course of the day and lose their ability to focus. If the condition is allowed to get worse, it can lead to increased muscle tension, decreased blinking, general discomfort, and several other symptoms.

Relieving and Preventing Computer Eye Strain

There are several things you can do if you think you’re suffering from computer eye strain. The first is to use lubricating eye drops. These will relieve dry, scratchy, and irritated eyes. The humidity levels in the room you’re sat in can also affect the dryness of your eyes. Ideal humidity is between 30 and 50%. A good routine to introduce into your working day is the 20-20-20 rule. While you’re working at your computer look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds, every twenty minutes. These short muscle breaks can delay eye fatigue and strain. Having your computer monitor at arm’s length and in line with your eyes will also help.

Many people use computer glasses because they’re meant to make focusing easier and require less effort. It’s possible to buy glasses online so you don’t need to worry about visiting an optician.

Having regular eye tests will mean you can get professional help for any issues that occur. Your optician will also be able to offer advice on how to reduce eye strain when working with computers.

Other Computer Related Health Problems

As well as affecting your eyes, prolonged computer use can cause a number of other issues. These include spinal problems from slouching in your chair, repetitive strain injuries in the wrists, and a general deterioration from leading a more sedentary lifestyle. Using an ergonomic mouse, a properly designed office chair and a workstation designed for computer use will make a big difference to your working day and your overall health.

You only get one pair of eyes, so it makes sense to look after them as best you can.

I’ve been a freelancer now for six years. It’s had its ups and downs, I’d be lying if I said every day was rosy. However, overall, it’s been life changing and a decision I’ve not regretted making (most of the time anyway).

The first step in the journey was moving to Bulgaria and working for an American SEO company. It was a brave one to take, mostly because I was leaving my family and friends behind but also because I knew very little about the country I was moving to or the people I would be spending the next couple of months with. All I knew was that I’d had enough of “working for the man”, slogging my guts out every week and having very little to show for it at the end of the month. We’d already had a taste of life and the prices in Bulgaria, having bought a house there and spending a couple of weeks there every year.

My first Bulgarian job, as previously mentioned, was for an American SEO company. I worked in the quality control department, listening to the customer service staff phone calls. After a few months of doing this an opening came up in the content side of the business. I proof read writers work before it was published on customer websites. It was then that I realised there was something I could do for myself. I was a native English speaker working in a country that was crying out for English writers. What did I have to lose? I handed in my notice and found my first writing gig. I’ve not looked back since.

So, what are the benefits of being a freelancer?

You Get to be Your Own Boss

This is probably the number one reason why people choose the freelancing route. It was certainly a big influence in my own decision. It’s a very liberating feeling to be able to clock in and out when you want to, not getting told off if you’re late and not having to tow the line and follow the lead of someone you really don’t respect.

You’re in Control

When you become a freelancer, you get to make your own decisions. Everything you do is up to you. if you choose to work in your pj’s in the middle of the night or sit by the pool and soak up the sun, it’s within the realms of possibility.

You Get to Spend Your Time How You Want To

If you choose a freelancing career there’s no 9 to 5 routine you have to stick to, unless you want to that is. We’ve all got times of the day when we’re more productive and others when we’d rather be doing something else. My most productive time is really early in the morning. This frees up the rest of my day for walking the dogs, pottering around the garden, sightseeing, shopping or sitting in a local café people watching.

You Can Work Anywhere

I’ve chosen to work in Bulgaria but theoretically, I could work anywhere I choose. Some days I end up going to a local restaurant and spending a few hours writing in their garden. I might write sat next to the pool. I’m in charge of where I work and as long as I meet my deadlines the client isn’t going to worry whether I’m at the top of a mountain, in a cool café, sat in the park or working through the night.

You Choose Your Own Clients

I’m still working on achieving this goal but I’m getting there. I’m looking forward to the day when I can ditch the clients I really don’t like working with and concentrate on writing about things that are close to my heart. This is one of the reasons I’ve started publishing more blog posts. It gives me a chance to flex my writing muscles and maybe influence some of the decisions my followers are making.

You Choose the Projects You Work On

This is another achievable goal that I’m getting closer to. I’m also painfully aware that there’s very little chance of me finding a job which interests and inspires me 100% of the time. I do spend a lot of my time involved in doing things I love but my goal is to increase it.

Great Rewards

The rewards of being a freelancer are both financial and spiritual. The more work you put in the more money you can earn and the greater the satisfaction.

You Get to do Something You Love

Most successful freelancers are able to follow their passions and I like to think I fall into this category. You get to feel a certain sense of pride in a job well done and when your customers are happy with what you’ve produced it’s a great confidence booster.

Sounds like a pretty rosy career choice doesn’t it. Before you rush into work tomorrow and hand in your notice, spend some time researching your chosen area and if you wait a couple of days, I’m going to publish an article that highlights some of the downsides of being a freelancer. I’ll also be looking at some of the skills you need, because freelancing isn’t for everyone.

I had always been a cat person up until 16 years ago when I met my husband. He came with his very own four-legged best friend and there was no way I was going to come between them. So, not only did I invite him into my life, I welcomed his furry friend too. There was a very valid reason I’d been steering clear of dogs and that was an allergy. When I was younger, I only had to come within yards of a dog and I’d erupt into fits of sneezing, have a runny nose and itchy eyes. If I got close enough to touch one, then it was even worse.

Nevertheless, I loved my husband too much to let it be an issue and was amazed to discover that it no longer was. It seemed that I’d grown out of my allergy, and while I still couldn’t get too up close and personal with his gorgeous chocolate Labrador, I could at least be in the same room and even sit next to him on the sofa. He was called Rren (short for Darren, but you can’t call a dog Darren!) and he quickly became part of our happy family.

Fast forward several years and my husband and I moved to Bulgaria. We left the kids behind, but there was no way we could bear to leave dear old Rren. I moved out to Bulgaria first, because I’d managed to secure a job and my husband and Rren followed a couple of months later. They made the 2000+ mile trip, together with all our worldly possessions, in our faithful Toyota Hilux Surf.

Fast forward a few more years and we decided to add a few more four-legged friends to our Bulgarian family. We’d already been made painfully aware of the stray dog situation in the country and the lack of spaying and neutering programmes that were making the problem worse. We knew we’d have no problem finding a companion or two for Rren. Sadly, Rren passed away not too long after our new family members appeared on the scene, although he did have a few happy months with them.

That’s quite an introduction to this blog, so I guess I’d better get down to the nitty gritty of why you might want to adopt, rather than buy a dog from a breeder or a pet shop. Consider the following reasons and remember they apply to all kinds of animals, not just dogs. Animal rescue and shelter centres across the UK, and indeed the world, are filled with cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, rats, chickens, ducks and much more. All of them are waiting for their very own forever home, with people who will love and care for them. In Bulgaria, for example, a dog rescue organisation, aptly named Twitchy Noses, works tirelessly to improve the lives of stray, abandoned and injured dogs in central southern Bulgaria. This organisation has been responsible for rehoming more than 250 stray dogs, and there are plenty more waiting for a second chance at happiness.

8 Reasons Why You Should Adopt a Pet

Save a Life

Adopt from a rescue centre or shelter and you’ll be giving an animal a second chance. Many of the animals you find in these places will have been neglected, abandoned or abused. Some may be there because their owners simply couldn’t look after them due to illness or a change in circumstances. Unfortunately, there’s often a lack of space in some shelters and animals have to be euthanised. By adopting, you’re stopping this from happening.

Save Money

While saving money might not feature at the top of your list when you’re looking for a pet it’s a benefit worth considering. Most of the animals offered for adoption will have been micro-chipped, spayed, neutered and vaccinated, so you don’t have to pay for the procedures yourself.

Help to Eradicate Puppy Farms and Pet Shops

While there is a lot of legislation in place in the UK to stop the practise of puppy farms and pet shops selling puppies and kittens under six months old, the same rules aren’t common practice around the world. If you adopt from a shelter, you won’t be playing a part in such an inhumane trade. Puppy farms are run by breeders who don’t care about the animals they are producing. Instead, all they care about is making as much profit as possible. The living conditions are way below an acceptable standard, with animals being kept in small cages and given little human contact. Puppies are taken away from their mother and litter far too early, which can lead to behavioural problems later on.


If you get a pet from a shelter it is more likely to be house-trained so you’ll be saving yourself a lot of time and extra effort.

Unconditional Love

Take it from a rescue pet owner, they seem to know when they’ve been rescued and the bond between you and your pet will be especially strong. A rescued pet will love you unconditionally, never judge you, and will always be there for you.

Adopting an animal from a shelter means it will have been spayed or neutered where possible. Spaying or neutering is important in controlling the animal population.

Why I Ditched my Love Affair with Meat

I was raised on a diet that included fresh vegetables from the garden with a serving of meat on the side for every meal. Somewhere along the way I lost my love for the vegetables and meat started taking over my plate. It was a couple of years ago that a suddenly realised what was going on and decided things had to change. Unfortunately, it’s a worldwide epidemic and one that’s not doing our health or the planet any good.

The primary reason for my decision to ditch meat was concern about my own future health. The fact that I’d be helping to save the planet is an added bonus. One other reason for my change in eating habits is all to do with animal cruelty. As humans, we really aren’t all that good at rearing animals in a smart and caring way. Some of the programmes I’ve watched on TV and YouTube would put most people off their roast chicken dinner, bacon butty and grilled steak.

Thoughts about becoming a vegan entered my head. It appears to be really trendy right now, however, I just can’t see myself giving up eggs and cheese. To counter the environmental effect of this decision, we have a small flock of backyard chickens, and I have to say the eggs they produce are far superior to anything ever bought in a supermarket. I also try to buy cheese produced locally, preferably made using sheep or goats milk, rather than cows.

I seriously recommend giving vegetarianism a try, or if you can’t take such a bold step think about becoming a reducetarian. In other words, reduce the amount of meat in your diet. Instead of eating it as part of every meal cut it down to three times a week to start with and then once or twice a week. I’ve got the internet to thank for all the imaginative and I have to say really tasty meals I’ve been able to serve up over the last couple of years. These scary facts might make you think about what you’re putting in your mouth. Here are 5 more reasons why you should ditch meat, starting today.

You’ll have more energy – your body has to work much harder to digest meat than it does plant-based foods. How often do you feel like taking a nap after eating a hearty Sunday roast? Swap for wholefoods such as leafy greens and legumes and you’ll have much more energy. I have to concur that I’ve felt much lighter and more energetic since giving up meat.

It’ll help you stay slim – replace the processed meats in your diet with wholefoods and you’ll find it much easier to maintain a healthy weight.

To avoid disease – meat eating to excess is linked to a variety of cancers, heart disease, and diabetes. Red meat can also increase the risk of a stroke.

To save money – embrace a wholefood diet and you’ll actually save money. It’s a refreshingly cheap way to eat. If you have the opportunity to buy local produce it’s even better, or why not grow your own?

I hope I’ve managed to convince you to change your eating habits. But even if I haven’t, there’s no going back for me of that I’m certain.

Are You Doing Everything You Can to Reduce Your Use of Plastic?

Well, I thought I’d start with the hot topic of plastic waste. Yes, it happens to be a personal beef of mine, but I have to hold my hands up and admit it’s only been the last few years it’s become an issue I’m passionate about. For years I was blissfully unaware of the problem. I chose to keep my head firmly buried in the sand when it came to such issues, but it’s now a problem that can’t be ignored.

I think my journey of discovery began a few years ago, when I found myself working for my local council in the UK. I was given the responsibility of collecting garden waste from small villages in the area. I found myself visiting the local landfill and was astonished by what I saw. I’ve also got my husband to thank for opening my eyes to the damage we’ve been inflicting on our planet for years.

Thankfully, I’m not the only one who’s awareness has been raised. Plastic pollution is an issue that’s now openly discussed, whether you’re watching TV, listening to the radio, reading a magazine or surfing the web. Even Glastonbury Festival goers were treated to a surprise appearance from Sir David Attenborough on the final day. If you don’t know who Sir David is and the cause he’s been supporting for many years, you must have been living in a cave for the last few decades.

Some of the plastic pollution facts that have led me to rethink the way I live my life include:

·         Since the 1950s, around 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been produced worldwide. If you can’t picture how much that is it’s the equivalent to the weight of more than 800,000 Eiffel Towers. How much of that has been recycled? A paltry 9%.

·         According to figures from the National Geographic, 73% of the litter that’s found on beaches is plastic. It comes in the form of bottles, bottle caps, food wrappers, grocery bags, polystyrene and cigarette butts.

·         1 million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute.

·         2 million plastic bags are used worldwide, every minute.

·         More than 1.1 million seabirds and animals are killed every year by ingesting plastic.

So what can you do about the crisis that is unfolding?

5 Lifestyle Changes I’ve Made That You Can Make Too

For many years, recycling was touted as the solution for the plastic waste problem. It’s not the answer at all. Reducing the amount of plastic you use is the only way forward. Here are some of the changes I’ve made in an attempt to reduce the amount of plastic in my life.

1.     Reusable grocery bags – in many countries, certainly here in Bulgaria, plastic bags are given away free with every purchase. Even charging a small amount for them doesn’t seem to put many people off. One of the easiest ways to reduce the amount of plastic in your life is to take your own bags when you go shopping.

2.     No more bottled water – when you go anywhere take a refillable bottle with you. I’ve been very lucky in that I came across a company based here in Bulgaria, NaturalLeaf, that makes water containers from the processing of wheat. They currently only sell to customers in Bulgaria but will shortly be making their products available worldwide. Not only have we got a water bottle each. We’ve also got picnic containers for carrying food when we’re out and about or sat by the pool.

3.     Use shampoo bars – I tried not washing my hair but just couldn’t stick with it. I overcame the problem of plastic shampoo bottles by finding a local producer of shampoo bars.

4.     Buy boxes instead of bottles – wherever possible buy products that are packaged in boxes rather than plastic bottles. Washing detergent, fruit juice and milk are just a few examples.

5.     Buy local fruit and veg – we’re very lucky here in Bulgaria because there are local fruit and veg markets in most towns. You can even buy produce on the roadside if you want to.


Reducing the amount of plastic in your life is something you have to do, for the future of the planet, its wildlife and for generations to come.  

I’m Thinking of Starting a Bullet Journal


Some of you reading this blog will know how disorganised I can be from time to time. For those who don’t know me, let’s say I’m a master at sticking my head in the sand and allowing the worries of the world to pass swiftly over my head. I’m also adept at leaving things until the last minute, at least in my personal life, and scraping through by the skin of my teeth. I don’t think I lead a charmed life but things have a tendency to work out OK, on the whole, without too much trouble.

It is said personality traits can be viewed in both a positive and negative way, but I think it’s about time I took my head out of the sand and tried to change the way I do things, a little anyway. I know there are people close to my heart who will jump up in the air and will me to be successful at making such a change. I’m confident I can do it. When I put my mind to it, I can be very organised.

I’ve decided to give bullet journaling a go. It’s an idea I stumbled across when doing research for an article I was writing. It captured my attention, so much so I put the article on hold for a few hours and continued with my research.

What is Bullet Journaling?

A bullet journal is a planner system devised by Ryder Carrol. He has a brilliant video on YouTube that explains exactly what it is. The basic idea is to have a journal that uses certain elements such as an index, monthlies, dailies, collections, and a future log. Using the system it’s possible to plan for the future, track the past and be better organised.

It requires very little and you don’t need to worry about spending heaps of cash. All that’s required is a blank notebook (A5) and a pen. I’m hoping that once I get my head around the basic principles, I’ll be able to jazz my journal up with colours, doodles and lots of other interesting things. As well as being an aid to better organisation, I’m also planning to keep it as a reminder of what I’ve been doing with my life. The months fly past so quickly and when I look back I kind of wonder what I’ve been doing with my time. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in no way unfulfilled or a glass half empty kind of person. I love my life in Bulgaria, with my husband, three gorgeous dogs we’ve made part of our family, rabbits, chickens and a cat. Not forgetting, the beautiful Bulgarian countryside we’re able to enjoy every day.

I’ll try to give you some updates on how I’m progressing.

Hot Spring Spa – A Pleasure We Can Afford Here in Bulgaria Every Week

Before I get into the virtues of enjoying a Bulgarian hot spring spa I first need to apologise for taking so long writing another blog. I’ve had my website now for almost a year and only penned 2 blogs of my own. As a writer, I’ve written plenty for other people. This year, however, things are going to be different and I plan to spend more time writing my own. My goal is to write at least one every week and failing any unforeseen hiccups I hope to meet that target.

Anyway, onward and upward and a blog about the virtues of relaxing in a tub of hot spring water, something we’ve come to enjoy quite regularly. And it costs less than you’d pay in the UK for a cup of coffee in Starbucks!

We’re very fortunate here in Bulgaria, there are hot mineral springs in almost every area you visit. We live in a small village between the towns of Dimitrovgrad and Haskovo. The next town but one is Mineralni Bani (община Минерални бани), a popular tourist spot, thanks to its healing waters.

We’ve been partaking of this health giving water for many years, ever since we bought our house here more than a decade ago. We’re both getting on a bit now (aah shame) and it does wonders for our aches and pains. It’s also nice to lie in the bath together. We’ve only got a shower at home.

So what is it about this hot spring water that’s so special?

In Japan they’ve been soaking in natural hot springs for thousands of years and I have to confess to feeling pretty good after relaxing for half an hour in a bath filled with hot mineral water. As a medical treatment, there’s still a lot of research to be done, however, it is reputed to have several therapeutic benefits.

Balneotherapy is the name it’s been given, referring to the therapeutic use of water. The water found in natural hot springs, such as those in Mineralni Bani, contain a variety of different minerals. These minerals include calcium, sodium bicarbonate, fluorine, chlorine, sodium and potassium, among others. Drinking or lying in water that contains these minerals is beneficial because it is said to:

  • Boost blood circulation
  • Reduce stress and promote sleep
  • Relieve pain
  • Heal skin problems

We’ve decided to enjoy a hot spring mineral bath at least once a week, and so far we’re feeling much better for it.

First,please allow me to apologise for taking so long writing another post. I don’t know what it is but here in Bulgaria, time just seems to run away with you. Before you know it, another week has flown by. What with gardening, baking, cooking, animal husbandry (there will be posts about our chickens and rabbits some time in the future), earning a crust, walking the dogs and relaxing in the sunshine, there aren’t enough hours in the day. Oh, and let’s not forget all those hours spent trying to deal with Bulgarian bureaucracy. If you get one official thing done in a day it’s considered a triumph.


Anyway, back to the trail. It’s part of a much larger one that we discovered while walking around the hills above Mineralni Bani. Lucky for us it’s just a few miles down the road from home. If we were still in the UK we’d have to travel hundreds to enjoy such beauty. We’d also have to share it with countless holiday-makers. Whereas here in Bulgaria, there are miles of unspoilt countryside. Much of it you get to enjoy without meeting a single soul. Perfect, in our opinion. We do have to look the other way on occasions, when stumbling across piles of rubbish. Why do people feel the need to take their rubbish out into the countryside and just dump it? How many bins did they pass on the way? There’s a regular collection once, sometimes even twice a week and they’ll take anything. It’s not as if there are restrictions like in the UK. But maybe that’s a gripe for another day.


Sarnitsa is where the trail begins, just a short walk outside of the village. We first have to negotiate our way past a stray puppy or two and find somewhere to park the Jag that won’t leave it in danger of being trampled by wandering cattle. It’s early in the morning, to avoid the flies, mozzies and heat of the rising sun. With my camera on my back (I find myself taking it everywhere with me nowadays), my soul-mate by my side (my husband, not my dog) and two dogs in tow, we set off up the hill. Before we’ve walked a few hundred yards the view behind us is spectacular. The route is set out with rustic signposts and there are maps along the way. Together with handy picnic and BBQ spots for the weary traveller. If you’ve got a 4X4 you can travel most of the trail in your car. But where’s the fun in that.


Spring Flowers Around my Home Part 1

My First Attempt at a Proper Blog

Well here goes nothing, and if any of you reading this knew how long it has taken me to get this far you’d be well impressed. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m no tech whizz kid and it feels like any results have been a bit hit and miss. So let’s see how far I get with this first proper post and take it from there. Yes, there are other blog posts on my site. But the purpose of those was to show how great I am at writing (she says as she struggles to get through the door). So that any prospective clients who might be interested in taking advantage of my services could get a feel for my style. 

The purpose of this blog and many more that follow (hopefully), will be to record my life experiences in Bulgaria and share some of them with the people I love. Anybody else who ends up reading them will be more than welcome of course.

The theme for this post is the spring flowers I’ve been snapping merrily with my camera. You can see some of them above and there will be more to follow I’m certain. My other half is much better at naming them than I am. I do listen to what he tells me but it’s a bit of a case of in one ear and out the other, which is a trait I’m not particularly proud of. Maybe there’s not enough space in my 54 year old brain for storing new information. Or maybe it’s just that I don’t really need to know what they are, just that they are so beautiful. 

The pictures have been taken just 10 minutes walk from our home. We are very fortunate in our location as it’s a short walk and we’re out in the woods. Most days within five minutes we could easily be in the middle of nowhere, with not a sound of human occupation to be heard.

When we first came to look at our house, the peace and quiet was the one feature that sold it. Had we looked a little closer at all the bad building, electrical and plumbing work done as part of the refurbishment we would have walked away. Sadly, or fortunately, you can look at it from both angles, we bought it with our hearts and I for one was smitten.

Not all of the pictures were taken close to home. Others I snapped a few miles down the road in Mineralni Bani, our local spa town. Bulgaria is well known for its healing mineral water and we regularly take advantage. Half an hour soaking in the hot water is amazingly invigorating and we’re both amazed at how it eases the aches and pains. We’re pretty much f”&*%d afterwards, but at 8 lev for a double bath it’s a no brainer. The walk we enjoy is a well laid out trail and we’re amazed at how few people use it. 

I’ll leave my blog here for now, as I don’t want it to go on and on and people get fed up with reading it. Signing off for the time being and catch up again another day.
